Glycerol (glycerine, glycerin) is a polyol compound. It is colorless, odorless, viscous liquid that is widely used in biological applications. Glycerol is a common reagent used in tissue culture media for bacteria and enzyme storage. Glycerol is useful for mammalian cell transfection and polyacrylamide gel preservation protocols, and also useful for sample preparation/protein stabilization and as a storage buffer component.
