Vitamins

The presence of vitamins is necessary in small concentrations in media and must be supplied in natural forms. These compounds are essential for many biochemical reactions. Thiamine (vitamin B1) is essential to plant growth and, thus, included in all plant media. The effect of vitamins on the development of the cell in vitro differs from species to species, and therefore vitamin concentrations vary per explant.
