Bleomycin is a mixture of basic antineoplastic antibiotics produced by glycopeptide produced by StreptomycesåÊverticullus. Bleomycin binds to DNA and causes strand breaks. Bleomycin also inhibitsåÊincorporationåÊthymidine into DNA strands. DNA cleavage by bleomycin depends on oxygen and metal ions, at leaståÊin vitro.
Soluble in water (20 mg/ml), methanol, moderate ethanol, PBS (pH 7.2) (10 mg/mL), DMF (2 mg/mL), and DMSO (13 mg/mL).
